Clara continues to do well after surgery. Her oxygen is down to about 40-45%. She is till gaining weight, and is about 4 pounds 5 ounces. This photo was taken yesterday. She is at the gestational age that she is starting to suck. So a pacie is her new friend. As with all young babies, it falls out unless you hold it.
On Saturday morning Clara decided to extubate herself, and in an emergency they had to re intabate her. They noticed her airway was narrow, so they had to put in a smaller ET tube. So we are back to the realization that she may have airway issues. We had hoped weeks ago that this was just swelling, and with her leak it had gotten better. ENT and Pulmonary will consult with our new Dr and us, as what our next steps are to be. She is I think big enough for a Bronc.
A narrowed airway, subglottic stenosis, opens up a new can of worms. However we have not been told that this is what it is, but Jason and myself are having to realize that it might be, just to brace ourselves.
I held her Sunday and yesterday for the first time since surgery. She did very well and of course it was good for me to finally get to. Jason and myself are trying to visit her as much as we can, be with Madeline, manage home life and find rest in between.
I am getting anxious about the Holidays. December 21st was her due date, so of course I constantly think how different this all could be. I don't know how to begin to give Madeline the Christmas eve/Day she deserves and be in Chapel Hill as well. The thought of having to leave Clara there by herself is just unbearable, as well as leaving Madeline with family as we go and visit.
This is something I will have to pray for peace about, and just get through it.
